- Teen Dating
Violence Awareness Week -DVAC implemented the very first campaign for Teen
Dating Violence Awareness in February. With media coverage,
volunteers on high school campuses, and presentations in classrooms,
information about teen dating violence went directly into the hands of
students to raise awareness to this important issue. We received=
a
Proclamation from Supervisor Rubio and developed a Teen Dating Violence
brochure for distribution.
- Older Adult
Issues Committee
–DVAC’s newly formed Older Adult Issues Committee gathered
community partners together to assist Aging and Adult Services in their
annual conference in May with the topic of domestic violence with older
adults. It was an excellent conference with record attendance an=
d a
brochure was developed that could be utilized by all domestic violence
advocates in our community.

to Domestic Violence Committee (CEDV)– This committee was formed this year =
to
address the primary recommendation in the Domestic Violence Death Revi=
ew
Team (DVDRT) presented to the Board of Supervisors in 2008. This
team is developing protocol for a Domestic Violence Crisis Response Te=
am
to be implemented when there are children who have witnessed a domestic
violence homicide, suicide or incident resulting in great bodily injur=
y to
a parent or primary caregiver. An excellent team including law
enforcement, mental health providers, CPS, KCNC, probation/victim witn=
ess,
CSUB, the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault, Greater
Bakersfield Legal Assistance and other domestic violence advocates in =
our
community, are currently in process of developing and implementing this
Crisis Response Team. Stay tuned for future updates…

Death Review Team – This very important team meets bi-monthly to discuss
domestic violence homicides and suicides in our community. The D=
VDRT
Report identifies important factors in these incidents and makes cruci=
al
recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. We look forward to
their upcoming report later this year and thank them for their dedicat=
ed
effort.

Conference 2009 – “Sin by Silence” promises to be an
excellent event. If you haven’t already signed up, please =

so as soon as possible as we only have 100 spaces left and expect this
conference to be sold out soon.
Hot off the presses… we just received notification of reward on two
grants written earlier this year, one from Target Corporation and one from
Junior League of Bakersfield. These grants were specifically written =
to
bring a very important training to Bakersfield.

FAAN, the “Danger Assessment” tool was developed to
identify risk factors for intimate partner homicide. When this traini=
ng
is completed, participants will receive certification in using the Danger
Assessment Tool. Due to the generous grants received from Target and
Junior League of Bakersfield, we will be able to offer this training FREE to participants.
