1999-2008 Activities

 

Education Committee

1)                   Developed brochure about DVAC and public information about DV-(2001)

2)                   Developed television PSA with Channel 17-Eye Street Productions  (2001)

“Through the Eyes of a Child”

3)                   Maintained yearly conference to educate about Domestic Violence-increasing attendance from 50 to 300 (since 1999)—keeping costs below $50 per person!

KCNC provided printed materials and registration in 1999

DHS has provided printing and registration forms each year since 2000

4)                   Designed and distributed LE pamphlet about victim’s rights—given to Kern Chief’s Association for personalization within each department.

5)                   Assisted KCSO in designing and provided trainers for the AO School to educate officers on DV as required by POST

Many trainers provided through DVAC’s membership

 

Criminal Justice Committee

1)             Submitted request for Bail Review to Superior Court which was implemented  (2002)

2)             Improved reporting of children who witness DV with law enforcement & CPS

Resulted in better service delivery of counseling, etc to children

3)             Numerous improvements to LE reporting and DA filings of DV cases (2001-2006)

4)             Developed Expert Witness’ for DA to testify when victim’s recant.

5)              Spearheaded the Domestic Violence Death Review Team –(2000)

 

Administrative Committee

1)           KCNC guided in developing structure and developed letterhead for DVAC

1)           Developed newsletter which was distributed by Network for Children (1999)

2)           Restructured DVAC with a Board of Directors—bringing in Agency and Department heads to govern activities of DVAC- and 20 member Advisory Board-  (2001)

3)           Developed DVAC website-launched in 2007 (Terry McNally put together with County Information Services (ITS) to utilize County of Kern website.  AAFVSA assisting with website design)

 

Death Review Team

1)                   Developed a form and protocol for gathering data on domestic violence related deaths.

2)                   Finished 5 year report in 2006 spanning the years of 1999-2004. (DHS provided printing)

3)                   Presented to Board of Supervisors

4)                   Presented to Governing Board of KCNC –to return with recommendations

 

Future Projects for 2008+

1)                   Resuming DV Court Committee (evaluating DV court proposal for misdemeanor DV

2)                   Starting Teen Issues Committee and Child Issues Committee

3)                   Redesigning new DVAC brochure with Kern County statistics from membership

4)                   Work on Teen Dating Violence conference for October w/ new awards ceremony

5)                   Establishing Quarterly training for community members/general partners
